About STE

Briefly...

STE is easy-to-use and feature-rich plain text editor. It is completely free-of-charge for everybody (licensed under GPL).

STE is a multiplatform application, so it has the same look-and-feel everywhere.

STE should run on all the OS which have Qt and GNU libraries. At least there are Microsoft Windows and the most of Linux/Unix distros. Official builds are available for Windows (NT/2000/XP/Vista/7) and Ubuntu 9.10 (amd64).

STE has also been ported by volunteers to Haiku and OS/2.

Another text editor? What for?

STE is being designed as multifunctional plain text editor, which is running on the several platforms as it's based on Qt and Qscintilla frameworks and on other multiplatform free software.

The main aim of the project is to create a powerful tool with the wide range of text processing functions, with max speed and convenience for its users. There are a lot of great free text editors such as Notepad++, SciTe, Kate and others. However often a particular editor does not offer all the features which are provided by another one, or runs only in a single OS. STE is designed to aviod these problems.

STE is not an IDE for several programming languages. However it has syntax highlighting, autocompletion, folding, text formatting and other features. You can think about STE as about an extended version of Notepad for editing of the simple text files.
